The city was established by Muhammed Qutb Quli Shah, the ruler of Qutb Shahi dynasty established Hyderabad and the city was named after his beloved wife “Hyder Mahal. Religion in Hyderabad is diverse.
Religion in Hyderabad is shaped by influences of different cultures prevalent in the area. Both Hinduism and Islam are predominant in Hyderabad. Apart from these there are followers of Sikhism, Christianity and Judaism in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad is a cosmopolitan capital of Andhra Pradesh and the religious practices of Hyderabadis are diverse and boast of a distinct texture and culture with a perfect fusion of the rich cultural practices of the Telegu people and the Islamic cultural traditions.
The principal languages of Hyderabad are Hindi, Urdu and Telegu. But all the languages have left their pure forms and have been influenced by each other. Urdu in Hyderabad carries with it influences of Telegu and Marathi. Telegu in Hyderabad is influenced greatly by the Urdu language.
A mixed set of religious practices form the base of Hyderabad. People from different creeds reside in the city. Hyderabad is the meeting point of Northern and Southern India and is resided by Bengali, Marathi, Gujaratis, Sikhs and other people.
Muharram is celebrated with pomp and grandeur in Hyderabad. In the old city of Hyderabad grand processions take place. The Ganesh Chaturthi and Bonalu are the two other great festivals in Hyderabad, celebrated with grandeur.
There are several mosques and temples in Hyderabad. Mecca Masjid is a mosque in Hyderabad, whose architecture is awe-inspiring. Birla Mandir in Hyderabad is a temple made of white marble. Situated on Kala Pahad this is a beautiful temple. The idol worshiped in the temple is of Lod Venkateshwara.
